Provider Biography

I am a board-certified urologic surgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the genitourinary system.  I am committed to providing compassionate, high quality and personalized care for patients with urologic cancers utilizing a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach. My extensive training in open, minimally invasive and robotic surgery allows me to offer patients innovative treatment options accounting for their individual goals and maximizing their quality of life.

I was born and raised in central New Jersey.  I completed my undergraduate education at The University of Virginia and returned to New Jersey for medical school where I obtained my medical degree at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.  I then proceeded to complete an internship in general surgery and a urologic surgery residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY.  This was followed by a two-year Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine / New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York, NY.  During my fellowship I was awarded a research grant from Ferdinand C. Valentine Fellowship for Research in Urology, New York Academy of Medicine for “Mutational Analysis to Predict Prostate Cancer Aggressiveness”.  Upon completion of my training, I spent six years as a urologic oncologist at SUNY Stony Brook where I served as the medical director of the prostate cancer program before the opportunity arose to return home to provide urologic cancer care at New Jersey’s only National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer center.

My clinical interests include kidney cancer and urothelial cancer with a specific interest and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.  I have extensive experience in nerve-sparing robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy for those who surgery is recommended; but as not all prostate cancer requires surgery I am dedicated to patient-centered care and support the idea of active surveillance in appropriate patients with low-risk or indolent disease.

My academic interests revolve around furthering personalized medicine with the hopes to refine our ability to predict the behavior of urologic cancer and response to therapy.  I have been the principal investigator in numerous past and ongoing clinical trials, published research articles in multiple peer-reviewed surgical and urologic journals, and authored multiple book chapters on surgical management of urologic cancers.  I am an active member of the American Urologic Association and the Society of Urologic Oncology.  I am passionate about surgical education and take pride in my teaching role as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

It is my honor and privilege to be able to provide cancer care to the New Jersey communities that helped raise me.   I am dedicated to offering comprehensive, compassionate and innovative treatment plans tailored to each patient’s particular cancer needs, concerns and values.
