Marco A. Zarbin, MD, PhD, FACS has served as the Chair of the Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Rutgers- New Jersey Medical School for over 25 years. Dr. Zarbin's extensive educational background includes an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire and a his MD, PhD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Maryland. Dr. Zarbin is considered an expert in his field, specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and research. In addition to his duties and responsibilities as Chair, Dr. Zarbin also takes call 24/7 for ophthalmic truama services at University Hospital in Newark, NJ and the VA Hospital in East Orange, NJ. Dr. Zarbin is considered an leading expert in his field globally, having refereed over 100 peer-reviewed publications and published nearly 120 books and chapters. As an expert and scholar he is often invited to hold lectures both nationally and abroad. Dr. Zarbin has secured extensive funding for the IOVS through grants and endowments. He has been included in the NJ Top Doctor's magizine for 5 consecutive years, earned the Honor Award from the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) and recognized in the Retina Times in July 2019 and is set to be awarded the LuEsther Mertz Retinal Research Lectureship Award in April of 2020. Dr. Zarbin continues to educate and lead by example to his faculty, students, and staff.
