Nicholas DeNunzio

Dr. DeNunzio is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Radiation Oncology division, Department of Radiation Oncology, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, where he is also Associate Program Director of the Clinical Radiation Oncology Residency Program. He is a board-certified radiation oncologist who focuses on treating tumors of the central nervous system (CNS; brain and spine) in both New Brunswick and Newark. As part of Rutgers Cancer Institute, he is able to offer state-of-the-art and multidisciplinary technologies and approaches in the management of CNS tumors, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic radiosurgery, and proton therapy.

His clinical and research interests also include proton therapy in managing pediatric and adult malignancies, normal tissue tolerances in the re-irradiation setting, personalized medicine/adaptive radiotherapy, and stereotactic radiotherapy (SRS, SBRT) to treat primary and oligometastatic disease states. Other professional interests include clinical practice guideline development (he co-authored American Society for Radiation Oncology’s clinical practice guideline on small cell lung cancer) and education of medical professionals and the general public on the practice of radiation medicine.

Dr. DeNunzio completed his MD/PhD at the Boston University School of Medicine before pursuing residency training in radiation oncology at the University of Rochester. He subsequently completed a fellowship in pediatric proton therapy at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining Rutgers Cancer Institute, Dr. DeNunzio was the Director of Proton Therapy in the Department of Radiation Oncology at John Theurer Cancer Center (Hackensack Meridian Health).
