Provider Biography

As an Attending Physician at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey at University Hospital and Provost of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Newark, I have dedicated my career to providing my patients with the highest level of care, providing them with opportunities to participate in cancer clinical trials, educating tomorrow’s health care leaders and finding new research discoveries. I have served as Principal Investigator for grant-funded research awarded by the National Cancer Institute, U.S. Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program, New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, private foundations and pharmaceutical companies. My basic science research interests are in studying the dormancy of breast cancer cells in the bone marrow and their mechanisms of reawakening. My clinical research involves providing clinical trials opportunities to medically underserved minority patients. I have chaired and served on research grant review panels at the National Cancer Institute, U.S. Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the California Breast Cancer Research Program and many other funding agencies.

I completed my MD and PhD doctoral studies at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, completed my internship and residencies in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Hospital Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), completed a research Fellowship at the NIH in human gene therapy and a fellowship in Oncology and Hematology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

I have been a member of numerous professional associations, including the American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and served on professional boards and institutional committees. I also served as a reviewer for professional journals.
