Prosthodontics

Rutgers Health University Dental Associates Prosthodontics focuses on the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of a person’s oral function, comfort, appearance, and health. Prosthodontics often addresses problems that originate from missing or damaged teeth, or parts of the jaw and face. We address these problems by replacing or enhancing “old parts” with new ones, like implants, crowns, and bridges.

Our prosthodontists are on the faculty at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research universities in the nation. Our doctors are active in research and teaching and bring the most current knowledge and techniques from the classroom to the exam room. Each provides dental treatment and compassionate care to all of our patients.

Prosthodontic Services

Bridges

A bridge may replace a missing tooth, or several teeth, by joining an artificial tooth permanently to adjacent teeth or dental implants. The procedure includes preparing teeth on both sides of the space left by the missing tooth with crowns, then placing a replacement tooth to adhere to the crowns, and cementing the bridge. Dental implants are common solutions to help with missing teeth, but sometimes a fixed bridge may be best. Our prosthodontists, who listen to the needs and concerns of patients, will consult with you to create the best solution.

Crowns

A crown completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant, and may be necessary when a large cavity threatens the health of a tooth. If you have teeth with large fillings, that are worn down or fractured, or have undergone root canal, crowns may be a solution to save them. Crowns may also help restore appearance to discolored or misshapen teeth.

Dental Implants

Dental implants can replace the roots of missing teeth and often are a support system for a single crown or bridge, or even full dentures. A single implant is a titanium cylinder, surgically placed in the jawbone, that functions and looks like a real tooth.

Dentures

Dentures can be a custom fit to replace all teeth, and removable partial dentures can replace teeth in specific areas of the mouth. Dentures can improve appearance, increase self-confidence, and ease speech and chewing issues caused by missing teeth. Our prosthodontists can build custom dentures to match your mouth shape, bite, and smile.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

A comprehensive mouth reconstruction can offer dramatic results for patients with multiple dental problems including missing, cracked, or broken teeth, or teeth that have been worn down from grinding. Reconstruction can also help people who may have problems with dental function or facial appearance due to conditions from birth.

Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a thin outer shell that bonds to the enamel of existing teeth to improve appearance. A Rutgers Health University Dental Associates prosthodontist may recommend veneers to improve the appearance of teeth that are misshapen, discolored, or chipped. This procedure may also help close gaps between teeth to improve the overall appearance of your mouth.
