Rutgers Health Advanced Endoscopy Services offers a multidisciplinary approach to treating gastrointestinal disorders, from gallstones to the most complex cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. We provide minimally invasive alternatives to surgical or interventional radiology procedures, and focus on better care, early detection, and leading-edge treatment of these conditions. We also work with our surgical, radiology, oncology, and pathology colleagues to treat the whole patient.

Our physicians use leading-edge endoscopic technology, including endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), in diagnosing and treating the complications of gallstone disease, as well as malignancies of the pancreas and biliary system.

EUS combines endoscopy and ultrasound to obtain images of internal organs in the chest and abdomen. It helps physicians see all layers of the intestinal tract. EUS is a key to determining the stage of gastrointestinal and lung cancers, and in detecting bile duct stones. EUS is a minimally invasive alternative to exploratory surgery for obtaining tissue samples from abdominal and chest organs such as the

• Pancreas
• Spleen

Our physicians also use EUS to guide drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts (fluid around the pancreas) and provide celiac plexus block (injections of pain medication that help relieve abdominal pain) often due to chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.
