The Rutgers Health Thrombosis program provides diagnosis and management of thrombotic (clotting) disorders. The program works with people who have inherited or acquired conditions that abnormally increase the tendency toward blood clotting (hypercoagulability). We see adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients, including women with pregnancy and reproductive issues related to thrombosis and hypercoagulability.

People with blood clots, or those who are survivors of blood clot complications, face unique challenges. These can include risks that come with using blood thinners, developing post-thrombotic disorders (problems after having a clot), and carrying a higher risk for future clots. It is important for blood clot survivors and their families to have information and support to manage the effects of blood clots and prevent future clots.

Our thrombosis program works together with the New Jersey Regional Hemophilia Program to provide comprehensive care for patients with clotting disorders. The program also has an on-site laboratory, which helps us provide patients quicker evaluations.

Physicians who serve our program are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Many of our physicians are active in research and teach about all aspects of hematology and thrombosis. Each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
