Pituitary Surgery
The Rutgers Health Pituitary Surgery program treats growths and tumors of the sellar region, which is the area surrounding the pituitary gland. We treat microadenomas, which are benign (noncancerous) growths in the pituitary gland smaller than 10 millimeters in size, as well as macroadenomas, which are pituitary gland growths larger than 10 millimeters, and other tumors.
Our program evaluates the endocrine system, the body’s system of glands that secretes hormones, and provides treatment to better manage it. Arrangements for these services can be made through a patient's primary endocrinologist or through the Rutgers Health Endocrinology practice.
We also offer treatments and services including:
- Endoscopic transphenoidal approaches for pituitary tumors
- An endoscope travels through the nose to remove tumors from the pituitary gland and skull base
- Neuro-ophthalmologic evaluations for visual problems that relate to the nervous system
- Transcranial surgery for the removal of pituitary tumors
Physicians that serve our program are on the faculty of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and in teaching about all aspects of neurology and neurosurgery. Each brings life-changing knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
