The Rutgers Health Orthopaedic Trauma practice specializes in orthopaedic traumatology, a subspecialty of orthopaedic surgery that treats difficult fractures, dislocations, and other injuries to arms, legs, hands, feet, and the pelvis.

Our practice treats fractures, which have two classifications: those that affect the long bones of the body such as the femur (thigh bone) or tibia (shin bone), and those that affect joints (intra articular fractures), such as the knee, hip, or elbow. Such fractures may improve with casts, splints, or bed rest; however, we often use newer techniques that emphasize joint movement (to prevent stiffness) and aid a faster return to function.

The natural course of healing fractures can include complications, such as infection or persistent pain. And fractures that extend into a joint may also result in stiffness and arthritis. However, our physicians are experts in managing complex injuries and complications that may arise during healing. Our expertise also includes:

  • Addressing fractures that may heal incorrectly or in a shortened position
