Adolescent Medicine

The Rutgers Health Adolescent Medicine program sees patients from the preteen years through the early 20s, and focuses on health matters that consider growth, psychosexual development, and behavioral issues. The program considers that adolescents have the ability to increase their responsibility for personal health, and part of each visit includes seeing an adolescent alone in order to foster such independence and respect a teen's need for privacy.

The program often sees patients with referrals to address specific problems, including menstrual and gynecologic issues, eating disorders, and recurrent chronic complaints. Our medical professionals may provide patients with referrals for adolescent primary care including checkups, immunizations, and specific problems, such behavioral concerns, eating disorders, and psychosomatic concerns.

Physicians who serve the program are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and in teaching about all aspects of adolescent medicine, and each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.

If you are an adolescent who is primarily responsible for your own health care, or you have a child who may benefit from our services, please contact the Rutgers Health Adolescent Medicine program today.
