Adolescent Youth Development Program
The Rutgers Health Adolescent Youth Development Program provides young males, who frequent other Rutgers Health clinical and community service programs, with access to health care including case management, group support, and advocacy services.
Bellow are the services we provide.
For Youth
Individual and group counseling for at-risk males in Newark, NJ, for
- Anger management
- College preparation and career planning
- Conflict resolution
- Fitness training
- Math/science tutoring
- Personal finance
- Sexual health training and STD/STI prevention
- Substance abuse support
For Parents
Individual and group counseling for parents of at-risk male youth in Newark, NJ on the following topics:
- Financial literacy
- Health and fitness
- “Help Me Help My Son - A Single Parent's Guide to Rearing Young Men”
- Home buying
- Understanding stages of psychosocial development
The program also offers two workshops:
- Parenting Development
- A six-week, research-based program to improve outcomes for at-risk families
- Waiting Room Parents
- Seeking to prove that increasing parental knowledge and skills improve positive outcomes for at-risk youths. Best for parents with the following concerns about their teenage sons:
- Anger issues
- Delinquent behavior
- Instilling discipline effectively and access to quality medical care
- Lack of motivation
- Lack of positive male influence
- Poor academic performance
