Eating Disorders Program
The Rutgers Health Eating Disorders program evaluates and follows adolescents and young adults with known or suspected anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or other eating disorders. Patients often receive referrals to see us following observations of
- Abnormal weight loss
- Amenorrhea (an abnormal absence of menstruation)
- Excessive or obsessive exercise
- Marked anxiety about eating
- Poor growth
- Preoccupation with weight, calories, or body shape
An initial visit to the program includes gathering a comprehensive health history from the patient and conducting a physical exam. Patients will also receive a nutritional assessment unless a dietitian is already monitoring them. The program also makes referrals for counseling to community therapists.
Physicians in the Rutgers Health Eating Disorders program are faculty members of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and in teaching about all aspects of adolescent medicine and eating disorders, and each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
If your child is exhibiting symptoms of an eating disorder or already has a diagnosis, please make an appointment with the Rutgers Health Eating Disorders program today.
