Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology
The Rutgers Health Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology program evaluates patients for many gynecologic conditions. We provide careful evaluations appropriate to the nature of a diagnosis and the young age of the patient, and we will coordinate care with gynecologists when necessary.
Adolescents and young adults often receive referrals to our program for consultation and monitoring of such gynecologic conditions as:
- Amenorrhea (the absence of a menstrual period)
- Irregular or painful periods
- Labial adhesions (also known as labial fusion)
- Persistent symptoms in the genital and urinary organs such as itching and dysuria (painful or difficult urination)
- Possible genital anomalies (physical abnormalities in genitals present at birth)
- Unusual uterine bleeding
- Vaginal bleeding
- Vaginal discharge
We also provide our patients with information on:
- Breast disorders
- Contraceptive services
- Evaluation and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases
- Evaluation for pregnancy
Unless otherwise indicated, we provide evaluation and treatment privately and confidentially. Should a patient require surgery or a diagnostic procedure, we can provide referrals to gynecologists or surgeons.
Physicians who serve our program are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and in teaching about all aspects of pediatric and adolescent medicine, as well as pediatric and adolescent gynecology. Each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
If you are the parent of a child or are an adolescent who is experiencing gynecological concerns, please make an appointment with the Rutgers Health Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology program today.
