Pediatric Asthma
The Rutgers Health Pediatric Asthma program offers assessment and comprehensive care for children with asthma. The program is one of only a few programs in New Jersey that offers effort independent assessments of lung function for children younger than 6 years of age. We perform this assessment during every visit.
Following each comprehensive assessment, we tailor an asthma education, treatment, and management plan to the patient’s needs. We share the plan with the child’s school nurse and primary physician, and review it with patients and families to ensure high continuity of care.
Other services that the program offers include:
- Allergy testing
- Evaluation of a child’s current treatment plan
- Special breathing tests such as spirometry, exhaled nitric oxide, and impulse oscillometry (IOS)
Physicians who serve our program are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are involved in research and in teaching about all aspects of pediatric medicine and asthma. Each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
