Pediatric Headache Program
The Rutgers Health Pediatric Headache program specializes in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of children who experience headaches, including migraines, tension-type headaches, and sinus headaches. The program evaluates all types of headaches in children and teenagers, and provides support for families.
Children may develop headaches at any age, and the most common type is a primary headache, such as migraine or tension-type headache. However, a neurological examination is necessary to detect any serious causes. The Rutgers Health Pediatric Headache program uses diagnostic tools to help assess headaches, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies, serum studies, and lumbar punctures. Treatments for pediatric headaches often depend on a child’s age and needs, and include using medications and nonpharmacological therapies.
Physicians from our program are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and in teaching about all aspects of pediatric medicine and headache treatment, and each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
