The Rutgers Health Pediatric Urology program diagnoses and treats urologic problems in children from birth to early adulthood. The program works with many pediatric subspecialists throughout Rutgers Health, notably on conditions that require a multidisciplinary approach, including professionals in pediatric radiology and pediatric anesthesia. Our pediatric child-life nurses also provide an excellent teaching program for children who require surgery.

The program offers many treatments for urologic problems in children, including:

• Fluid-filled enlargement of the kidneys
• Hernia
• Hydrocele
• Hypospadias
• Ureteropelvic junction obstruction
• Vesicoureteral reflux
• Voiding (bladder emptying) dysfunction and infection

For children who experience nighttime or daytime wetting, our program is one of few the country to offer comprehensive diagnosis and treatment.

Most of our program’s pediatric urology surgeries occur at Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. If surgery is required, parents are encouraged to accompany their child into the operating room, comfort their child in a postoperative recovery room, and sleep in their child's room if an overnight stay is necessary.

Physicians who serve the program are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and teach about all aspects of urologic problems in children. Each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
