S.T.A.R.T. HIV Program
The Rutgers Health S.T.A.R.T. (Screening, Treatment and Risk Reduction for Teens) program offers health care and social services for young people, ages 12 to 29. Physicians with experience in the care and treatment of HIV in adolescents and young adults lead the S.T.A.R.T. program, which includes nurses, medical assistants, and social workers.
The S.T.A.R.T. program helps manage the primary medical needs of patients, including regular wellness visits, medical diagnosis, lab work, medication, and medical and dental referrals. It also provides comprehensive medical case management services including:
- Assistance with medical insurance and prescription drug applications
- Community-based referrals
- Counseling
- Food
- Social service support
- Transportation
- Treatment adherence counseling
Our patients also have access to mental health counseling in individual, couples, and group therapy sessions. We provide psychiatric referrals as necessary.
Physicians who serve the Rutgers Health S.T.A.R.T. program are on the faculty of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and in teaching about all aspects of primary care and HIV treatment. Each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
If you are an adolescent or young adult who is managing the effects of HIV and in need of primary health care services, please make an appointment with the Rutgers Health S.T.A.R.T. program today.
