The need for in-home medical care for the homebound elderly and people with disabilities is increasing. The Rutgers Health Home Visit Service is meeting that need through a community outreach program that serves this population.

Our physicians and health professionals visit people at their homes or in the homes of family members, in assisted living centers, or senior housing. We make house calls, and our goal is to help people avoid hospitals, emergency rooms, and waiting rooms whenever possible.

The physicians in the service are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and in teaching about all aspects of primary care, and each brings life-changing knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.

Primary Care at Home

We provide primary care ranging from routine physicals to the management and treatment of simultaneous conditions. We bring into homes the equipment to perform X-ray, electrocardiogram (EKG, to monitor heart activity), blood work, urinalysis, and ultrasound studies. We also work closely with area nursing agencies, therapists, social workers, podiatrists, and dentists to manage medications, wound care, dental care, hospice care, and hospital follow-up.

If there is a need for hospitalization, we work closely with leading physicians at hospitals throughout central New Jersey. We help make that transition as smooth as possible and ensure the highest quality of inpatient care.
