Minimally Invasive Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery
The Rutgers Health Minimally Invasive Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery program performs operations on an outpatient basis for benign and malignant conditions of the thyroid. About half of thyroid patients, and 80 percent of parathyroid patients, receive outpatient care; our surgeons are experts in procedures that help people return home quickly.
Our physicians perform surgical procedures that emphasize small incisions and use local anesthesia and sedation when appropriate. We also perform intra-operative parathyroid hormone monitoring (IOPTH) to check whether a patient has hyperactive parathyroids (glands next to the thyroid that secrete a hormone to regulate calcium levels).
Physicians who serve our program are faculty members of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and teach about all aspects of thyroid and parathyroid surgery. Each brings life-changing knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
