Trauma
The Rutgers Health Trauma program staffs two of the three Level 1 Trauma Centers in New Jersey. Our physicians staff the Level I Trauma Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, in New Brunswick, NJ, and the Level I Trauma Center at University Hospital, in Newark, NJ. Both centers accept patients from throughout the state, often with the help of helicopters flown by the NorthSTAR air rescue program.
Our staff provides around the clock coverage for the trauma centers and has a commitment to excellence in quality patient care, community outreach, and innovative national and international trauma education.
Our outstanding team of health care professionals includes nurses, nurse practitioners, students, residents, and fellows. Many of our surgeons are double board-certified from the American Board of Surgery and fellowship trained in general surgery and surgical critical care.
Our physicians have expertise in leading-edge surgical procedures such as rib fixation and micro-plating for chest wall reconstruction in patients with traumatic chest wall injuries. Using life-changing surgical techniques, our surgeons repair flail chest and multiple rib fracture injuries to lessen respiratory stress, ease pain, and enhance patients' return to full function.
Physicians who serve the Rutgers Health Trauma program are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School or Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Both are part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and teach about all aspects of trauma and acute care surgery. Each brings life-changing knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
If you or a loved one needs critical care due to trauma, the Rutgers Health Trauma program will provide the best possible care.
