The Rutgers Health Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary Anesthesiology program provides anesthesia coverage for the Rutgers Health liver transplant program. We collaborate with a multidisciplinary liver team to manage complex hepatobiliary disorders such as liver tumors, biliary strictures, and portal hypertension.

Our program also manages anesthesia for non-operative invasive procedures such as the transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). TIPS is a procedure that includes placement of a tubular device in the middle of the liver to redirect the blood flow. ERCP is a surgery that relieves biliary obstruction resulting from a tumor.

Physicians who serve our program are on the faculty of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Most are active in teaching and research, and each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
