Cardiac Catheterization and Catheter-Based Interventions Program
The Rutgers Health Cardiac Catheterization and Catheter-Based Interventions program provides a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac and vascular services.
The diagnostic procedures we perform include:
- Carotid angiography
- Doppler guide wire evaluations
- Intravascular ultrasound
- Left-heart catheterization
- Lower extremity arterial angiography
- Renal angiography
- Right-heart catheterization
The procedures for diagnosis or treatment that our practice performs include:
- Balloon pericardial window procedures (which drains fluid from the space surrounding the heart into the chest cavity)
- Coronary atherectomy (removal of atherosclerosis from blood vessels)
- Intracoronary stent deployment
- Laser angioplasty
- Percutaneous transluminal balloon angioplasty (which enlarges blood vessels and forces healing to break up plaque and may help avoid cardiac bypass surgery)
- Pericardiocentesis (removal of fluid from the sac around the heart)
- Transcatheter left ventricular support devices
We also perform peripheral vascular interventions, including:
- Atherectomy
- Lower extremity arterial balloon angioplasty
- Stenting, including carotid and renal artery stenting
Physicians who serve our program are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, a part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are active in research and teach about all aspects of cardiology and cardiac interventions. Each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
If you or a loved one is seeking diagnosis and treatment for heart issues that may require cardiac interventions, please make an appointment with the Rutgers Health Cardiac Catheterization and Catheter-Based Interventions program today.
