Cardiology

The Rutgers Health Cardiology practice provides outstanding, compassionate care that uses evidence-based guidelines, as well as leading-edge diagnostic techniques and therapies. Our cardiology practice includes physicians who are experts in noninvasive, invasive, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures for heart problems. We provide specialty care for patients experiencing:

  • Acute coronary syndromes
  • Arrhythmias (heart rhythm problems)
  • Heart failure
  • Structural heart disease
  • Syncope
  • Valvular heart disease

We also provide cardiac rehabilitation for people recovering from heart attacks and coronary bypass surgery.

Decisions on whether a patient will receive treatment with medicine, an interventional procedure, or surgery is often a joint decision with one of our cardiologists, a patient’s primary care physician, and a cardiac surgeon. This is true for non-emergent treatments as well as for emergencies. Factors that affect this decision include the nature of the patient’s cardiac disease and general health; and whether concurrent medical conditions might influence the effectiveness of treatment.

The Rutgers Health Cardiology practice includes physicians who are board-certified specialists in:

  • Clinical cardiac electrophysiology
  • Diagnostic cardiac catheterization and intervention (angioplasty, stents)
  • Noninvasive risk assessment
  • Pacemaker and automatic cardiac defibrillator implant and follow-up
  • Preventive cardiology
  • Treatment of hypertensive and atherosclerotic disorders

Physicians who serve our practice are on the faculty of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School or Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Both are part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America. Our doctors are leaders in research that seeks new and better ways to treat patients for cardiovascular disease and hypertension, so that people may live long, healthy lives. Our physicians also teach about all aspects of cardiology, and each brings leading-edge knowledge from the classroom to the exam room.
