Rutgers Health Advanced Endoscopic Services offer a multidisciplinary diagnostic approach to patients with liver disease. Our physicians use life-changing endoscopic technology, including endoscopic ultrasounds (EUS), in diagnosing and treating the complications of gallstone disease, as well as malignancies of the pancreas and biliary system. We also work with our surgical, radiology, oncology, and pathology colleagues to treat the whole patient.

Interventional Endoscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)

EUS combines endoscopy and ultrasound to obtain images of internal organs in the chest and abdomen. It helps physicians see all layers of the intestinal tract. EUS is a key to determining the stage of gastrointestinal and lung cancers, and in detecting bile duct stones. EUS is a minimally invasive alternative to exploratory surgery for obtaining tissue samples from abdominal and chest organs such as the

• Bile ducts
• Gallbladder
• Liver
• Lymph nodes
• Pancreas
• Spleen

Our physicians also use EUS to guide drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts (fluid around the pancreas) and provide celiac plexus block (injections of pain medication that help relieve abdominal pain) often due to chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.

Our physicians are experts in interventional endoscopy and EUS. Our doctors are on the faculty of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School or Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, both part of Rutgers University, one of the top research institutions in America.
