The Rutgers Health Nephrology practice provides life-changing inpatient and outpatient nephrology services. Our goal is to preserve kidney function and to delay or prevent the need for dialysis. Our physicians have expertise in the care of patients who have:

• Acute and chronic kidney injury
• Cystic diseases of the kidney
• Glomerular disorders
• Hypertension
• Kidney transplants
• Renal calculi
• Renal complications of pregnancy
• Tubulointerstitial disorders (affecting the tubules and interstitial tissue of the kidney)

Should a person need dialysis, we can provide a referral to the Rutgers Health Kidney and Pancreas Transplant program to determine their candidacy for transplantation.

Our inpatient services include consultations and the administration of:

• Acute hemodialysis (kidney dialysis)
• Continuous renal replacement therapies that replace the normal blood-filtering function of kidneys, including
  • Continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF)
  • Continuous veno-venous hemodialysis (CVVHD)
  • Continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH)
  • Slow continuous ultrafiltration (SCUF)
• Peritoneal dialysis
  • Dialysis using the peritoneum in a person's abdomen as the membrane through which fluid and substances exchange with blood. It removes excess fluid, corrects electrolyte problems, and removes toxins.
• Treatment of electrolyte abnormalities.
